Lady Bears Swat Yellowjackets

The Union City Lady Bears softball team was back in action on Monday afternoon as they traveled to Girard to take on the Lady Yellowjackets in a non-region game.

The Lady Bears would strike early scoring three runs in the first inning. The Yellowjackets would score their first run of the game in the bottom of the first but would trail 3-1 after one inning of play.

The Lady Bears would go on to score eight unanswered runs over the next two innings of play to take a double-digit lead. Girard would answer back in the bottom of the third with four runs to trim the Bears lead to six.

The Bears would have a big fifth inning scoring six runs to put the game away as they would go on to defeat the Yellowjackets 17-5 in five innings. The win improves the Lady Bears to 4-3 on the season while the Yellowjackets fall to 2-3.

The Lady Bears will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they return home to take on the Iroquois Lady Braves in their region opener.
