The Union City Lady Bears basketball team was back in action on Friday night as they traveled to Clymer, PA to take on the District 6 runner up Penns Manor Lady Comets in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A State Playoffs.
After two scoreless minutes Union City would get on the board first as Brooke VanTassel would make a free throw to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. The Lady Comets would then score eight unanswered to lead 8-1 after one quarter of play.
Ava Greer would make the Bears first field goal of the game in the second quarter. The Lady Bears would play much better than they did in the first as they would outscore the Comets 14-13. Penns Manor would lead going into halftime 21-15.
The Comets would come out of the intermission to outscore the Bears 17-8 to expand their lead going into the fourth 38-23.
The Lady Bears would play the fourth quarter even with the Comets as both teams scored eleven points. Penns Manor would go on to win the game however 49-34 to advance to the next round.
The Lady Bears historic season now comes to a close where they set numerous records and finish the season 14-12.
The Corry Lady Beaver’s season came to a close Saturday as they fell to Oakland Catholic in the first round of the PIAA 4A Playoffs by a score of 64-26. Corry finishes the season with a record of 14-12.
