GUELPH, Ontario – The Erie Otters opened their 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League season in impressive fashion Friday, defeating the Guelph Storm 5-1 at the Sleeman Centre.
Erie broke through late in the first period when Kayden Edwards scored to give the Otters a 1-0 lead. Colin Kennedy then scored a shorthanded goal during a Guelph power play, giving Erie a 2-0 advantage after the opening period.
Guelph cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second, but Erie responded with three goals. Evan Headrick scored on the power play before Kennedy added his second goal of the night to make it 4-1.
Ulysses Lombardi extended the Otters’ lead in the third period, and Erie held on for the 5-1 victory. The Otters outshot Guelph 32-30 over the final two periods.
The win gives Erie a 1-0-0-0 record to begin the season.
The Otters will travel to Kitchener next Saturday to open a home-and-home series with the Rangers. Erie will host Kitchener on Saturday, September 26, for its home opener, with Fan Fest preceding the game.
