Several Area Wrestlers Advance to PIAA State Tournament

Four area wrestlers have secured spots in the PIAA State Wrestling Championships following regional competition over the weekend.

In Class 2A boys competition, Corry placed eighth in the team standings at the NW Regional Tournament held in Sharon and will send one wrestler to states. Owen Nickerson captured the regional title at 285 pounds to earn his berth in Hershey. Also placing for the Beavers were Carson Braswell, fifth at 152 pounds; Lamech Albers, fifth at 172; and Landon Nickerson, sixth at 189.

Fort LeBoeuf finished 10th in the team standings and will be represented at states by Alden Struchen, who placed second at 189 pounds. Also placing for the Bison were Carter Friday, sixth at 114, and Dan Duran, sixth at 215.

Union City placed 20th as a team and will send one wrestler to Hershey. Van Ward won the regional championship at 107 pounds to advance.

The senior finished his season with a 24013 record.

In girls competition at the PIAA West Regional, Corry finished 20th in the team standings. Finlay Fourspring earned a third-place finish at 106 pounds, qualifying for the PIAA Girls State Tournament.

The PIAA State Championships begin Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey, with competition running through the weekend.
