Saegertown Shuts Out Union City 28-0 on Homecoming

UNION CITY — Saegertown handed Union City a 28-0 loss Friday night at Bears Stadium, spoiling the Bears’ Homecoming celebration despite several strong defensive stands and a handful of promising offensive drives. The game was part of a full week of Homecoming activities at Union City Middle-High School.

Saegertown controlled much of the game on the ground and built a 13-0 lead by halftime. The Panthers added another touchdown in the third quarter to make it 28-0 and held Union City scoreless the rest of the way.

Union City had opportunities early in the game. The Bears moved into Saegertown territory on their first possession, and later in the first quarter Hunter Michael intercepted Saegertown quarterback Jaxton Amy to give Union City possession at the Panthers’ 24-yard line. The Bears moved inside the 20 but were unable to finish the drive.

Saegertown opened the scoring on a 28-yard touchdown run by Cru Scott. Scott added another rushing touchdown in the second quarter, although the extra point was blocked, leaving the score 13-0. The Panthers later added a safety and a Riley Wilkinson touchdown to take a 22-0 lead into halftime.

Union City continued to battle defensively in the second half. Garrett Miller provided some hard-running plays, while Danny Smith also carried the ball for the Bears. Torun Dennis delivered a strong punt late in the third quarter that pinned Saegertown deep in its own territory.

The Bears continued to create opportunities in the fourth quarter. Jaden Betcher connected with Torun Dennis on a long completion that moved Union City deep into Saegertown territory, but the drive ended without points.

Individual team and player statistics were not provided by press time.

At halftime, Union City crowned its 2026 Homecoming Queen and King. Elliana Chapman was crowned Queen, while Hunter Michael was crowned King.

Earlier in the evening, Union City recognized its 2026 Wall of Achievement inductees: Kathleen Henry, a 1964 graduate; Christa Margie Le Gallo, a 1994 graduate; and Todd Rose. The three were introduced at Bears Stadium following a public reception at the Union City Middle-High School cafeteria.

Homecoming activities continue with the Union City Alumni Association’s 65th annual Homecoming Parade Saturday morning, followed by the association’s annual Alumni Banquet Saturday evening. This year’s parade theme was “America the Beautiful.”
