ERIE — National Fuel customers in Pennsylvania will see a slight decrease in their monthly natural gas bills beginning Aug. 1 as lower wholesale gas prices reduce the company’s gas supply charge.
The utility has filed its annual gas supply adjustment with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, lowering the monthly bill for a typical residential customer using 98,400 cubic feet of natural gas annually by about $2.75. The average monthly bill will decrease from $91.21 to $88.46.
According to National Fuel, the reduction is primarily the result of lower market prices for natural gas and includes a refund of previously overcollected pipeline capacity charges. The company noted that gas supply costs are passed directly to customers without any markup or profit.
National Fuel’s price-to-compare gas commodity charge, used by customers shopping for an alternate natural gas supplier, will also decrease to $0.54916 per 100 cubic feet.
The company noted that Pennsylvania utilities may adjust gas supply charges quarterly to reflect changing market conditions. The next opportunity for an adjustment will be Nov. 1.
National Fuel also reminded customers that financial assistance may be available. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services recently announced a one-time $100 supplemental Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) payment for eligible households that received LIHEAP benefits during the 2025-26 heating season.
Customers experiencing difficulty paying their bills may also qualify for National Fuel’s Customer Assistance Program, which offers affordable monthly payment options and potential forgiveness of outstanding balances for eligible low-income households. Customers can contact National Fuel for additional information about available assistance programs.
