ERIE — The Erie Otters returned to home ice Saturday night but were unable to extend their winning streak, falling to the Ottawa 67’s 3-0. The teams played a scoreless opening period, with both goaltenders turning aside 11 shots as the teams traded scoring chances.
Ottawa broke the deadlock in the second period when Nic Whitehead scored on a deflected shot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Erie continued to pressure Ottawa goaltender Jaeden Nelson, but the 67’s carried their advantage into the third period. The Otters outshot Ottawa 26-19 through the first 40 minutes.
Ondrej Ruml extended Ottawa’s lead in the third period, and Zach Houben added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to seal the 3-0 victory. Erie finished with a 36-29 advantage in shots on goal, but Nelson and the Ottawa defense kept the Otters off the scoreboard.
The Otters continue their four-game homestand Sunday when they welcome the Barrie Colts for Sunday Family Funday. Tickets and additional information are available at OttersHockey.com.
