The upcoming retirement of two longtime administrators headlined action taken by the Corry Area School District Board of Directors during its June 22 meeting.
Board members approved the retirement of Superintendent Sheri Yetzer, effective June 30, 2027. The board also approved the retirement of Director of Elementary Education Daniel Daum, effective the same date. The approvals provide the district with a year to prepare for leadership transitions before both administrators conclude their service at the end of the 2026-27 school year.
The board also adopted the district’s final budget, fund balance resolution and homestead and farmstead exclusion resolution for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Directors approved financial transactions totaling approximately $4.7 million and accepted the May business manager’s report.
Several contracts and service agreements were renewed for the upcoming school year, including agreements with Velocity Network for voice services, Xerox for copier and printer services, Arbiter for athletic scheduling and management, and LECOM and Medical Associates of Erie for school physician and sports medicine services.
School safety was another significant topic. The board approved an agreement with the City of Corry to provide a full-time police officer assigned to the district during the 2026-27 school year. The board subsequently appointed William Gordon, Russell Herrick and Michael Cherry as School Police Officers, Richard Alekson as Substitute School Police Officer and Lonny Moore as School Security Guard.
Directors also approved the purchase of nearly $54,000 in new student workbenches and seating for Career and Technical Center classrooms, along with a flooring repair change order at Corry Area Primary School.
In personnel matters, the board appointed Jody Fox as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the middle school program for the 2026-27 school year. Volunteers approved for next year include Rob Cummings, Steve Savitz and Derrick Albers for football, Cummings and Savitz for wrestling, and Megan Pound for Unified Track and Unified Bocce.
The board also approved a marching band trip to Kennywood Park in August under the supervision of Band Director Tristan McCray, Assistant Band Director Janielle Cressley and Assistant Band Director Elizabeth Muchesko.
Other actions included establishing substitute teacher and nurse pay rates for the upcoming school year, approving the disposal or sale of surplus equipment and textbooks, and granting a property tax exemption request through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
