In a public information release, state police said the checkpoint is intended to combat driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Troopers are also reminding the public that impairment can include not only alcohol and illegal drugs, but also prescription medications that can affect a person’s ability to safely operate a vehicle.

Police are urging anyone who plans to drink to arrange for a sober driver and are asking motorists to make safe choices behind the wheel.

State police said impaired driving remains a serious public safety issue and encouraged drivers to avoid getting behind the wheel if they are under the influence.
