CORRY, Pa. — One of Corry’s biggest summer events returns Saturday, June 27, as the Corry Police Department’s annual K9 Golf Open transforms North Hills Golf Course into a day-long community celebration featuring golf, a children’s carnival, live music, and a fireworks display.

Channel 98.9, Corry’s Radio Alternative, is serving as the official media partner for the event, which raises funds to support the Corry Police Department’s K9 Unit and K9 Miso.

What began as a golf fundraiser has grown into one of the area’s most anticipated summer gatherings. This year’s event includes a sold-out golf tournament, a free children’s carnival presented in partnership with the Corry Moose Lodge, a free concert featuring Erie-based pop-punk cover band Daytona Beach 2000, and a fireworks show by SKM Pyro.

“We’re just trying to make the event grow year after year,” Corry Police Corporal Daniel Leek said during a recent interview on Channel 98.9. “Trying to get more people up there so it’s not just golfers. We want families and kids to have something they can enjoy too.”

Concert and Fireworks Take Center Stage

While the golf tournament remains the foundation of the fundraiser, organizers say the evening concert and fireworks have become major attractions.

This year’s headliner, Daytona Beach 2000, specializes in the pop-punk and alternative rock hits that defined the early 2000s. The Erie-based trio features Trevor Vogt on bass and lead vocals, Ryan Krysiak on guitar, and Jeff Burick on drums.

Fans can expect songs from Blink-182, Sum 41, Green Day, Good Charlotte, All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance and other artists that helped shape the genre.

Vogt said the band was formed nearly a decade ago after noticing few groups were performing music from that era.

“We realized there wasn’t a lot of bands playing that early-2000s music,” Vogt said on Channel 98.9. “Now it’s become nostalgic for a lot of people.”

The band has developed a reputation for recreating the sound and energy of the original recordings while delivering a high-energy live show.

“We love when people come up after the show and tell us they feel like they’re in middle school again,” Vogt said. “Music has a way of taking people back to a simpler time.”

Daytona Beach 2000 follows last year’s headlining act, First to Eleven, another Erie-area favorite. Several members of Daytona Beach 2000 also perform with First to Eleven, giving local music fans a familiar connection between the two events.

Opening the concert will be local performers Kallie Williams and Kayla Lowe. Music begins at approximately 5:30 p.m.

This year’s fireworks display is also expected to be larger than originally planned. The fireworks show scheduled during CorryFest earlier this month was canceled because of weather. Organizers have since combined the postponed CorryFest fireworks with the K9 Golf Open display, creating a significantly expanded show to conclude the evening.

Immediately following the concert, SKM Pyro will launch the combined fireworks presentation, which is expected to be one of the largest community fireworks displays of the summer in the Corry area.

Leek said organizers intentionally scheduled the event the weekend before Independence Day to help kick off the Fourth of July season.

Supporting the K9 Unit

The fundraiser serves a serious purpose beyond the entertainment.

According to Leek, proceeds from the event help fund the department’s K9 program, including equipment, training, and other expenses associated with maintaining the unit.

K9 Miso joined the department about a year ago and has already proven valuable in both Corry and neighboring communities.

Police Chief Jordan Kitchen said the dog has been embraced by the public and has assisted in several investigations, including narcotics cases.

“The community has embraced it,” Kitchen said. “We’re super grateful to have him here working with us.”

Miso and Leek also assist surrounding law enforcement agencies when specialized K9 services are needed.

Full Day of Activities

The day begins with the sold-out Corry Police Golf Open, a four-person scramble at North Hills Golf Course. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled for 11 a.m.

Families can then enjoy the free Kids Carnival from 3 to 6 p.m. The carnival, organized in partnership with the Corry Moose Lodge, will feature games, face painting, activities, and food.

The concert follows at approximately 5:30 p.m., with fireworks scheduled after the performance concludes.

Major sponsors helping make the event possible include Northwest Bank, LECOM Health, Corry Collision Center, McCray Rentals, Corry Moose Lodge, Tier One Aerial, Keystone Sky Drones, SKM Pyro, Corry & North East True Value, and numerous other community supporters.

While the golf tournament filled quickly this year, organizers note that the carnival, concert, and fireworks remain free and open to the public.

The Corry Police K9 Golf Open, Concert and Fireworks Celebration takes place Saturday, June 27, at North Hills Golf Course in Corry.
