Downtown Corry will transform into a celebration of creativity, music and community when the annual First Friday Art Walk returns on Friday, June 5, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Hosted by the Downtown Corry Business Association, the event will feature local artists, live music, art competitions, food vendors, family activities and free horse-and-carriage rides throughout downtown Corry.
In an interview with Channel 98.9’s Nigel Metal, Corry Connections’ Nancy DeMauri said this year’s theme focuses on experiencing art in a variety of ways.
“The theme this month is the Art Walk. It’s going to be all about art and experiencing art,” DeMauri said. “We’ve got a few things going on. We’re going to be having a sidewalk chalk art contest and we have quite a few participants in that.”
One of the featured attractions will be a sidewalk chalk art contest, where artists will create colorful works throughout downtown. Winners will be selected later in the evening.
The event will also include a metal sculpture competition sponsored by The White Butterfly, along with plein air artists who will be stationed throughout the downtown area creating artwork in real time.
“There’s also going to be artists all the way through town doing plein air painting and they’ll be demonstrating their skills and you’ll be able to see their artwork in progress,” DeMauri said.
Additional activities will include an Art Passport Hunt, a children’s craft zone, alumni weekend activities and opportunities to vote for favorite entries in the metal sculpture contest.
Live music will be provided by Mitch Littler, Adam McKillip and Concord Station, with performances spread throughout downtown.
As with other First Friday events, DeMauri said the gathering is designed to bring the community together.
“It’s a good time. It’s a great community event and you get to see people and meet your neighbors,” she said.
Channel 98.9 will also be on hand during the event. Visitors can stop by the station’s booth to register for prize drawings, including passes to African Safari Wildlife Park in Ohio and tickets to any Jamestown Tarp Skunks home baseball game. The event also features local food trucks and free horse and carriage rides.
