UC’s Van Ward fails to medal; Fourspring Finishes State Runner-Up

Union City Area High School wrestler Van Ward did not bring home a medal from the PIAA Individual
Championships held from March 5 to March 7 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Ward, a senior wrestling at 107 pounds, had a bye in the preliminary round. In the first championship
round, Ward lost a 4-3 decision to Central’s Ty Matthews. In the consolation round, he lost a 5-4
decision to Benton’s Korban Collae to bow out of the tournament.
Ward, a region champion a week earlier, finished his season at 35-6.

Fort LeBoeuf’s Alden Struchen turned in the best boys finish locally, placing eighth in the state at 189 pounds. Corry’s Owen Nickerson went 1–2 in the tournament at 285 pounds

Corry’s Finley Fourspring turned in the top local performance at the PIAA Individual Girls Wrestling Championships in Hershey, finishing as the state runner-up at 106 pounds.

Fourspring went 3–1 in the tournament to reach the championship match before falling to Julia Horger of Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles in the final.
