The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) released traffic enforcement and crash statistics from the New Year’s holiday period.
From Dec. 31 through Jan. 4, PSP investigated 1,098 vehicle crashes statewide. Three of the crashes resulted in fatalities. Police reported that impaired driving was a factor in 69 of the crashes.
During the five-day holiday period, troopers arrested 378 individuals for driving under the influence.
State police also issued numerous traffic citations, including 4,377 for speeding, 508 for failing to wear a seat belt and 60 for violations involving children not properly secured in safety seats.
PSP stated the enforcement activity took place as part of routine holiday traffic safety efforts across the state.
