The program is open to students in grades 10 through 12 and is designed to develop leadership and problem-solving skills while promoting environmental stewardship across the commonwealth.

Participants will work with leaders from the private sector, state government and local media while learning about issues such as litter prevention, waste management, recycling and civic engagement.

“Pennsylvania’s ecological beauty and sustainability come from hard work on the ground level,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “Through litter clean-up and prevention, stream restoration, and empowering their friends and neighbors, the next generation of environmental leaders are setting the standard for the rest of us.”

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful President Shannon Reiter said the program, now in its fifth year in partnership with PennDOT, continues to inspire students to create meaningful change in their communities.

Ambassadors will serve a one-year term from September 2026 through May 2027. Requirements include attending six virtual education sessions, conducting a community assessment and presentation, organizing a community cleanup through Pick Up Pennsylvania, and leading an educational activity.

Applications are being accepted from April 1 through June 10 through a competitive selection process.

Students interested in applying can visit keeppabeautiful.org or contact Kylie McCutcheon at 724-836-4121 ext. 114 or by email at kmccutcheon@keeppabeautiful.org.
