Corry Homecoming Week in Full Swing

CORRY — Corry Area High School is celebrating Homecoming with a week of activities leading up to the annual Homecoming Parade, Friday night football game and Homecoming Court coronation, and Saturday’s semi-formal dance.

This year’s theme is “Reign of the Nile.” Corry teacher Paula Carey, who is in her eighth year coordinating Homecoming activities, is organizing the week’s events.

Spirit Week activities are taking place through Friday, giving students an opportunity to show their school spirit throughout the week.

The annual Homecoming Parade is Thursday, Sept. 24, beginning at 6 p.m. Students, school groups and community participants will take part in the parade, with Corry Area High School Principal Andy Passinger serving as Grand Marshal.

Friday will bring the annual Homecoming Tailgate Party, hosted by Channel 98.9 and Corry Federal Credit Union from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lou Hanna Athletic Complex, in the area between the tennis courts and the school.

Admission to the tailgate requires a ticket to that night’s football game, with game tickets available for purchase at the tailgate. Food will be provided, including hot dogs from Sanders Market, chili from Ploss’ Lunch Box, pizza from Tamarack Tavern, chips from Corry Federal Credit Union, cookies from Corry Subway and soda from Beer Barn.

The event will also include information booths, giveaways, activities and commemorative T-shirts available on a first-come, first-served basis. Channel 98.9 will have giveaways for Erie Otters tickets and passes to African Safari Wildlife Park and the Columbus Zoo.

This year’s nonprofit partner is Avery’s Pawsitive Change, which will be featured on the commemorative shirts and marketing materials.

Kathy Silvis, Promotions Director for Channel 98.9, said the annual partnership is intended to highlight organizations working in the community.

“Beginning with this year’s Tailgate Party, Channel 98.9 and the CFCU spotlight a local non-profit organization each year,” said Silvis. “This year’s non-profit partner is Avery’s Pawsitive Change. We want to recognize Avery’s and all of the work they do for pets and community feral cat colonies. We also want to honor the founder, Avery Chauncy, who passed away in 2025. Each year we will feature the non-profit and their colors on the commemorative T-shirts and marketing materials. We hope to illustrate that organizations working together is essential to helping everyone.”

The Homecoming football game against General McLane will follow Friday evening, with the Homecoming Court recognized and the Homecoming King and Queen crowned during the game.

Channel 98.9 radio will provide play-by-play coverage, with Brad Swanson and John Yatsko calling the game. The broadcast will be simulcast with the Corry Journal’s live video stream.

Homecoming Week concludes Saturday, Sept. 26, with the semi-formal Homecoming dance for students in grades 9-12.
