CORRY — Registration is now underway for two Christmas in July Vacation Bible School sessions and a community Christmas dinner as the Corry Area Ministerial Association launches a month-long series of events designed to bring churches, businesses and residents together.

The first Vacation Bible School will be held July 13-17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army. A second session, featuring the same program, is scheduled for July 27-31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Corry YMCA. Both sessions are free and include community service projects.

The celebration begins Friday, July 10, with a traditional Christmas dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army. The meal will feature a traditional holiday menu, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The Christmas in July initiative also includes the Festival of Lights at Harecreek Campground on July 24 and 25, a self-guided “Mysteries of Christmas” prayer walk through downtown Corry, and a Christmas tree decorating contest, with details to be announced.

The events are coordinated by the Corry Area Ministerial Association, a coalition of local churches that recently reorganized and expanded its mission. While the association will continue sponsoring community events such as Lenten luncheons, Good Friday services and Christmas programs, its members have shifted their primary focus toward prayer, fellowship and serving the community. The group now meets twice each month at Relevant Church for prayer, communion and planning community outreach efforts.

In an interview with Channel 98.9 Program Director Brian Silvis, Father Skip Davis, the association’s business manager, said the organization wanted to refocus its purpose while continuing its community service.

“We wanted people to know that we pray for them every time we get together,” Davis said. “Yes, if they need something like food or clothing, we help with those things, but we also wanted our focus to be on praying together and serving our community.”

Davis said Christmas in July grew out of the Vacation Bible School theme and evolved into a month-long community effort involving churches, businesses and nonprofit organizations. In addition to the scheduled events, volunteers are being sought to help ring Salvation Army bells during the campaign, and maps will be available for the downtown prayer walk.

The association also continues to support several blessing boxes located throughout Corry and welcomes donations of nonperishable food items to help keep them stocked.

Meetings of the Corry Area Ministerial Association are open to the public and are held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Relevant Church.
