CORRY — Community leaders and economic development professionals will have an opportunity this month to learn more about a major technology-focused redevelopment effort underway in Corry.
The “Economic Transformation Cookbook and Tour: Combining Connectivity and Education to Help Communities Thrive in the Digital Economy” is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Corry Area Higher Education Council, 221 North Center Street. The event will showcase projects aimed at expanding broadband access, workforce development opportunities and technology-based economic growth in the city.
Participants will tour the former Corry hotel currently being redeveloped into a multi-purpose facility expected to house a digital economy career training center, data center, co-working space and operations supporting a citywide gigabit fiber network.
Organizers say the event will focus on how investments in broadband infrastructure, education and workforce training can help rural and small-city communities compete in an increasingly digital economy. Attendees will also receive a guide detailing the development of Corry’s fiber network and the Corry Area Technology and Cyber Hub, known as CATCH. The publication outlines challenges, solutions and lessons learned throughout the project.
The tour will be led by Chuck Gray, director of Impact Corry, and Dr. Matthew Platz of the Corry Higher Education Council, both of whom have played key roles in advancing the initiative. Organizers say the event will include opportunities for participants to discuss community development projects and explore how similar strategies might be adapted elsewhere.
The walking portion of the tour is described as light and accessible, with elevators available and most activities taking place on level surfaces.
