Corry’s Cook Wins Double Gold, Fort LeBoeuf’s Glass Captures State Title at PIAA Class 2A Championships

Several athletes from the local area delivered standout performances over the weekend at the PIAA Class 2A Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University, highlighted by three state championships and multiple medal-winning finishes.

Corry senior Blake Cook turned in one of the top performances of the entire meet, sweeping both hurdle events to claim double state gold medals.

Cook captured the Class 2A boys 110-meter hurdles title with a winning time of 14.08 seconds after entering the finals as the top seed. He later added another championship in the 300-meter hurdles, breaking the PIAA Class 2A state record with a time of 37.25.

Cook’s performance gave Corry two state titles and cemented his place among the top hurdlers in Pennsylvania this season.

Fort LeBoeuf senior Blake Glass also finished his high school career with a state championship, winning the boys 800-meter run in 1:53.08. Glass pulled away late in the race to secure the Class 2A gold medal by nearly two seconds.

Glass also earned a bronze medal earlier in the championships with a third-place finish in the boys 1600-meter run in 4:14.54, giving Fort LeBoeuf another podium finish in distance competition.

Corry added additional medal-winning performances in the field events and middle-distance races.

Marleigh Martin finished 10th in the girls triple jump with a leap of 36-6.5, capping a strong postseason run for the Corry senior. In the boys javelin, Corry’s Landon Atha placed fourth with a throw of 184-5 to earn a state medal.

Corry also saw Paxton Zinz place seventh in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.46.

Fort LeBoeuf added more points in the sprints and throws. KC Wasiulewski placed seventh in the boys 100-meter dash finals and fourth in the 200-meter dash. Meanwhile, Mason Friedman earned two state medals in the throwing events, finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 61-0.5 and third in the discus at 163-0.
