An 81-year-old Erie man was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 89 and Lovell Road in Concord Township, according to the Pennsylvania State Police. State police from Corry identified the victim as Benjamin T. Ewiak Jr., 81, of Erie.
Police said the crash occurred at approximately 1:52 p.m. on May 8. Investigators determined that a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 19-year-old Clarissa M. Hicks of Corry was traveling east on Lovell Road and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Route 89.
According to police, a 2013 Honda CR-V driven by Ewiak was traveling north on Route 89 when the Equinox entered the intersection and struck the Honda.
Following the collision, the Honda continued northbound, entered a ditch along the east side of the roadway and rolled multiple times on Route 89. Police said Ewiak was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
Ewiak was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Authorities said Hicks was not injured in the crash.
Police reported both vehicles sustained disabling damage. Investigators also noted that Ewiak was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
