The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency has announced that applications are now open for the 2026-27 Student Teacher Support Program, which provides financial support to student teachers preparing to enter the education workforce in the state.
Awards are issued on a first-come, first-served basis once a complete application is submitted through PHEAA’s Account Access system. Applications must include all required fields and a valid signature to be considered complete.
The program is designed to reduce financial strain during student teaching, encourage retention in Pennsylvania schools, and help address ongoing teacher shortages across the state. It supports student teachers placed in school districts, charter schools, career and technical schools, and non-public schools.
To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in an approved Pennsylvania educator preparation program, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and meet all clearance requirements for school placement. Participants must also agree to a three-year teaching service commitment in Pennsylvania following graduation.
Key deadlines for the 2026-27 cycle include a student teacher application submission deadline of September 15, a fall placement deadline of July 1, and a spring placement deadline of December 1.
Officials note that failure to complete the required service commitment results in repayment of program stipends.
