The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the $1.97 million project will improve nearly 8 miles of Route 4009 through Freehold, Pittsfield, and Sugar Grove townships. Work is set to begin April 14, 2026, weather permitting.

The project area runs from the intersection of Page Hollow Road and Route 6 in Pittsfield Township to the intersection with Route 957 in Sugar Grove Township.

Planned work includes milling and paving, base repairs, guide rail upgrades, shoulder repairs, tree trimming, and adjustments to side roads and driveways.

Officials say the project is expected to be completed by June 2026. A portion of the work will require a detour beginning around May 4 for approximately two weeks, routing traffic along Route 6, Route 958, and Route 957.

Drivers are being advised to expect lane restrictions and shifting traffic patterns during construction.

The project is being completed by IA Construction of Franklin, with the contract fully funded through state transportation dollars.OT’s annual construction program aimed at maintaining and improving transportation infrastructure across the region.
