The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is reminding residents of two voluntary programs designed to assist first responders during emergencies.

The first is the Yellow Dot program, which is intended for use in vehicle crashes. Participants complete a form that includes emergency contact information, medical contacts, and relevant medical details. The form, along with a photo of the participant, is placed inside a designated folder and stored in the vehicle’s glove compartment. A yellow dot sticker displayed on the rear window alerts emergency responders that the information is available inside the vehicle.

PennDOT also administers the Emergency Contact Information program. Through this initiative, Pennsylvania driver’s license and state-issued identification card holders can log into a secure database to list up to two emergency contacts. Participants may update their information as needed, but access to the database is limited to law enforcement officials.

Unlike the Yellow Dot program, which applies specifically to traffic crashes, the Emergency Contact Information program can be utilized in a broader range of emergency situations.

Both programs are offered at no cost to participants.
