
Area wrestlers competed at the District 10 Class 2A Championships this past weekend in Sharon, with several local athletes earning podium finishes and advancing to regionals.
Two local wrestlers claimed district titles. Corry’s Owen Nickerson captured the 285-pound championship, while Union City’s Van Ward won the 107-pound title. Both will lead their teams into the next round of postseason competition.
Union City placed 11th overall, highlighted by Ward’s championship. David Dominguez-Ashton (114), Josh Mitcham (133), and Kane Gregor (160) each earned sixth-place finishes.
Union City assistant coach Will Burgess was also recognized during the tournament, earning District 10 AA Assistant Coach of the year and Section 1 AA Assistant Coach of the year honors.

Corry finished seventh in the team standings and had nine medalists overall. In addition to Nickerson’s title, Carson Braswell placed third at 152 pounds, Landon Nickerson was fourth at 189, Cooper Hodak and Lamech Albers each finished fifth at 160 and 172 respectively, and Brody Nickerson (215), Landon Walizer (127), Marcus Meredith (145), and Steven Willis (133) all earned eighth-place finishes. Albers earned his 100th career victory during the tournament.

Fort LeBoeuf placed sixth as a team with eight medalists. Alden Struchen led the way with a runner-up finish at 189 pounds. Denny Church placed fourth at 107, while Brady Bowers (139), Carter Friday (114), Dan Duran (215), and Luke Bowers (127) each finished fifth. Easton Glass added a sixth-place finish at 172, and Trevin McNamara was eighth at 121.
Titusville finished 15th in the team standings. Parker Miller (145) and Sawyer Wolfklel (121) both placed fifth, while Bryce Watkins finished seventh at 285.
Maplewood placed 22nd, led by Chase MacQuarrie’s seventh-place finish at 215.
The top eight finishers in each weight class advance to the Northwest Regional Championships, which begin Friday in Sharon.
