Otters Drop Road Opener to Saginaw, 4–1

The Erie Otters opened a Michigan road swing Friday night with a 4–1 loss to the Saginaw Spirit at the Dow Event Center.

Saginaw built a 2–0 first-period lead before Tyler Cooper scored on the power play to pull Erie within one. The Spirit responded with goals in the second and early third periods to pull away, while goaltender Stepan Shurygin turned aside 25 shots.

The loss extends Erie’s skid to three games. The Otters finish their three-in-three Saturday night in Flint against the Firebirds.
