The Union City Lady Bears basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon as they capped off a busy week traveling to Corry High School to take on the Lady Beavers in a non-region game.
The Beavers would get off to a fast start as they would lead by six in the late minutes of the first quarter. Brooke VanTassel would score a basket to bring the Bears back within four as Corry would lead 12-8 after one quarter of play.
The Lady Beavers would grow their lead back up to six in the early minutes of the second quarter, the Lady Bears would keep coming back however as they would go into the half trailing by two 18-16.
The third quarter would go back-and-forth as both teams traded the lead. The Lady Bears would win the quarter, outscoring the Beavers by one point to go into the fourth trailing by one 25-24.
The Lady Bears would take a two-point lead midway through the fourth on a layup by Ava Greer. The Lady Bears would never surrender the lead the rest of the way as they would go on to defeat the Beavers on their home floor 34-30 to earn their second straight win. The win evens up the Lady Bears record to 10-10 on the season, while the Lady Beavers fall to 13-7.
The Lady Bears will look to continue their momentum on Monday night as they travel to Eisenhower to take on the Lady Knights in a region game.
