Union City Police Chief David Pernice received approval from council last Tuesday to move forward with the purchase and installation of a drivers license and registration scanning system for the department. The purchase had been delayed pending the outcome of a Pennsylvania Commission on Crimes and Delinquency grant application. Pernice said he recently learned that the equipment did not receive grant approval and asked that the borough move forward with the purchase stating it will save officers considerable time and resources during traffic stops. The money for the system has already been approved in the 2023 budget by council which is expected to cost less than $2,000.
