There were plenty of dinosaurs, witches, astronauts, monsters, cowboys, a duck and just about any other character you come up with.
They were all gathered together – youth and adults alike – in the Union City Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall on Saturday, Oct. 31, which was Halloween.

They had participated in a parade along Main Street during Treats in the Streets, when representatives from businesses and organizations lined the streets and handed out information and treats to those dressed in costume.
The parade ended at the social hall, where the Union City Parks and Recreation Commission held its annual Costume Contest prior to trick-or-treating.

Children were judged in four age groups – 0 to 3 years old, 4 to 6 years old, 7 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old. There was also a family category for the top three family costumes. Cash prizes were given categories of Funniest, Cutest, Most Creative and Creepiest. First place received $20, second place received $15 and third place received $10.

Judges were Damon Pieper, Jim Peterson, Eliza Reynolds and Becky Boleratz.
Jessica Reynolds is the chairwoman of the Union City Parks and Recreation Commission, which sponsored Treats in the Streets and the Halloween Costume Contest. She said the creativity was incredible.

Businesses and organizations that participated in Treats in the Streets include the Union City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6773, Union City Lions Club, Union City Family Support Center, Erie Crawford Cooperative, Buzz of Union City Cafe, Union City Pet Hospital, Monark Student Transportation, Countryside Grille, Union City Historical Society Museum, Union City Police Department, First Baptist Church Youth and Parker-Hannifin Corp.
