PLEASANTVILLE — A fire destroyed a downtown building housing a laundromat and three apartments Monday morning, displacing residents and prompting a response from 33 fire and emergency service agencies across five counties.
The fire was reported around 8:15 a.m. No residents were injured. A 29-year-old firefighter suffered a knee injury and was taken to a hospital but has since been released.
The building was considered a total loss. The property, purchased in September 2024, contained a laundromat and three recently renovated apartments.
Nearby businesses and residents assisted displaced tenants by providing shelter, clothing and other necessities. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the affected families.
Fire and emergency crews responded from Venango, Crawford, Forest, Warren and Clarion counties. By 4 p.m., all departments except Pleasantville had cleared the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
