The Community Blood Bank will hold a special blood drive Wednesday, October 7, at the YMCA of Corry in memory of Jacques “Jay” F. Rougeau Jr., a Corry native who lost his life in the line of duty on June 17, 2023.
The blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Corry YMCA, 906 North Center Street.
The event is part of the Community Blood Bank’s “Starve a Vampire, Give Blood” October campaign, encouraging area residents to donate blood and help ensure lifesaving blood products are available for patients in need.
“We wanted to have a little fun with Halloween while reminding people that there is a very real need for blood donors. One donation can make a lifesaving difference for patients in need,” said Brittiny Rafferty, Erie Mobile Drive Coordinator.
As part of the October campaign, everyone who donates with Community Blood Bank will receive a limited-edition “Drink Responsibly” blood donor T-shirt, while supplies last.
Subway subs and cookies will also be provided to donors while supplies last, with refreshments provided by the Community Blood Bank.
Appointments are encouraged to reduce wait times, but are not required. Walk-ins will be accepted as space allows.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. A valid photo ID is required. Donors are encouraged to eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 ounces of water before donating.
The Community Blood Bank provides blood products to hospitals in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York.
