CORRY — Downtown Corry will take on a different look Friday, Oct. 2, as the Downtown Corry Business Association hosts its latest First Fridays event, “Small Town, Big Machines.”

The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. downtown and will give residents and visitors an opportunity to get a close-up look at the equipment used by local municipalities, surrounding townships and area farmers.

Nancy DeMauri, owner of Corry Connections and one of the event organizers, said the theme is designed to showcase the equipment that helps keep the community operating.

“Surrounding townships and the City of Corry are going to bring down all their big equipment,” DeMauri said. “Their big snowplows, their big dump trucks, all the things like that. And they’re going to be lined up around Center Street along with some farmers who are also bringing some of their equipment.”

Visitors will be able to walk around the equipment, talk with operators and see the machines up close.

“You can get up close and personal with these big machines,” DeMauri said. “Talk to some of the operators, and you can really see up close what keeps our community moving.”

The event is expected to offer plenty for children, as well, giving them a chance to see the real-life versions of the trucks and equipment many may have played with as toys.

Music will be spread throughout downtown during the evening. Performers scheduled to take part include BB2, the Blues Beaters, Callie Williams, Ryah Lambert Band, Brooke Surgeoner and Tate Linden.

Magic Steve also will be on hand with balloon animals for children.

A photo opportunity will be set up near Corry Connections, allowing visitors to have their picture taken with one of the large machines.

The evening will also feature the First Fridays Illumination Parade. Participants are asked to gather near the high school around 6:15 to 6:30 p.m., where organizers will provide illuminated wings and help organize the parade before it travels along Center Street after sunset.

DeMauri said Superman the Dancer will lead the parade.

“He’s great at what he does, and everybody always has a really good time with him,” she said.

The First Fridays event also will feature the “Small Town, Big Machines” T-shirts designed for the event.

DeMauri said the combination of equipment, entertainment and the parade is intended to bring people downtown for an evening centered on the community.

Channel 98.9 radio will also be at the event with giveaways.

Information about participating in the Illumination Parade is available through the Downtown Corry Business Association at 814-665-9925 or contact@corrychamber.com.
