Missing Titusville Man Found Deceased After Seven-Month Search

TITUSVILLE — A Titusville man who had been missing since February has been found deceased, according to the Titusville Police Department.

Walter Allen Peterson III was reported missing Feb. 26. On the evening of Sept. 22, a member of the public reported finding human remains in the area of Meadow Lane in Titusville.

Titusville police responded and, working with the Crawford County Coroner’s Office, positively identified the remains as those of Peterson.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to establish the timeline and circumstances surrounding Peterson’s disappearance and death. Police said specific information about the condition of the remains, evidence and items recovered from the area will not be released at this time to protect the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have information that could help establish a more complete timeline to contact investigators. This includes anyone who may have seen Peterson or recalls unusual pedestrian, vehicle or other activity in or around the Meadow Lane area between February and September.

Police also are asking the public to refrain from sharing speculation or unverified information about the case, noting that such information could interfere with the investigation and cause additional distress for Peterson’s family.
