The Union City cross country teams competed in two meets recently, with the Bears earning a boys team victory over Seneca on Tuesday while also turning in several strong individual performances at the Edinboro Distance Festival.
At the Edinboro Distance Festival, junior Josh Mitcham led Union City in the high school boys 5K, placing fourth in 17:05.50. Senior Zachary Myer was 13th in 17:54.90 and junior Luke Himrod finished 21st in 18:30.60.
Sophomore Josiah Shrout placed 51st in 21:27.90, followed by junior Gavin Ahl in 54th at 22:06.90, freshman Brayden Weilacher in 60th at 22:32.80 and senior Saul Murphy in 72nd at 25:24.10. Jayden Leonard was listed as a DNF.
Union City’s girls were led by freshman Olivia Shrout, who finished 34th in 26:52.84. Freshman Taylor Leonard was 36th in 27:51.82, Rian Moore was 42nd in 29:34.43, senior Allie Anderson placed 45th in 29:41.77 and freshman Kylie Kerr was 52nd in 32:54.69.
On Tuesday, Union City hosted Seneca in a short-course varsity meet. The Bears swept the team competition, with the boys winning 22-36 and the girls taking a 29-26 victory.
Mitcham won the boys race in 13:01.16, followed by Myer in third at 13:56.27 and Himrod in fourth at 14:19.31. Shrout was sixth in 14:45.94, Ahl seventh in 16:25.28 and Weilacher ninth in 16:34.06. Murphy finished 11th in 18:18.13, while Leonard was 12th in 18:35.32.
In the girls race, Olivia Shrout led Union City with a third-place finish in 19:39.93. Leonard was fourth in 20:48.28, Moore fifth in 21:17.02, Anderson seventh in 22:39.34 and Kerr 10th in 24:27.71.
