ALBION — The 81st annual Albion Area Fair will bring five days of agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, amusement rides, live entertainment, contests and family activities to the Albion Fairgrounds Sept. 15-19.
The fair is open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5 per person at the gate, while a weeklong pre-sale booster button is $10. Booster buttons purchased at the gate are $15. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free throughout the fair. Admission includes free parking and entertainment.
Thursday is First Responders, Veterans and Senior Citizens Day. Veterans, first responders and those age 65 and older will be admitted free with proper identification.
Midway rides
Amusement rides will be available Tuesday through Saturday, with wristbands priced according to the day:
- Tuesday: 3-10 p.m., $15 wristband
- Wednesday: 4-10 p.m., $25 wristband
- Thursday: 4-10 p.m., $25 wristband
- Friday: 4-10 p.m., $25 wristband
- Saturday: noon-10 p.m., $30 wristband
Tuesday
The fair officially opens at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the grandstand, followed by the Albion Area Fair Queen and Junior Miss contests at 6:15 p.m.
The Queen and Junior Miss program is sponsored by Albion Moose Lodge and includes a $2,000 scholarship for the Fair Queen. Contestants are judged on poise, personality, knowledge of the fair and their responses during interviews. The Queen and her court will represent the fair throughout the five-day event and at the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs convention in Hershey.
Other Tuesday highlights include the baked foods auction at 5 p.m., Extreme Trail Cowboy Race at 5 p.m., Garden Tractor Pull and Keystone Mini Mods at 7 p.m., and demonstrations including rope making and flint knapping. The Stone Age Show will also perform several times during the day.
Wednesday
Wednesday’s entertainment includes local country musicians Damon Church and Frankie Frombach from 4-6 p.m. at the grandstand, followed by country artist Chris Higbee from 7-10 p.m.
Higbee is also scheduled to headline the evening entertainment, while other activities include draft horse hitch classes, a square dance, wool spinning, food preservation and demonstrations.
Thursday
Thursday is packed with activities for Senior Day, including senior activities and vendors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Albion Jazzercise from noon to 1 p.m.
The Tiger Maple String Band performs from 2-5 p.m., followed by the NWPA Sanctioned Truck and Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. The Ministerium Program featuring Jonathan White is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m., with Alexis Bradford performing at the grandstand from 8-10 p.m.
Rides run from 4-10 p.m. with a $25 wristband.
Friday
Friday features a Dead Weight Tractor Pull from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a Fun Horse Show from 3-11 p.m.
Lords of the Highway will perform at the grandstand from 5-7 p.m., followed by Crush from 8-10 p.m.
The midway will operate from 4-10 p.m. with a $25 wristband.
Saturday
The final day begins with the Albion Fair 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m., followed by the Albion Fair Parade at 10:30 a.m.
The Fair Queen Princess Pageant is scheduled for noon at the grandstand for girls ages 8-11. The winner will join the Fair Queen and Junior Miss for activities during Saturday’s fair.
Other Saturday highlights include the Antique and Classic Tractor Pull at noon, livestock parade at 1 p.m., kids games, Kids Tractor Pull, draft horse pull, horseshoe tournament, ATV Rodeo, Mutton Bustin’ and the goat and sheep costume contest.
A reception celebrating the 60th annual Fair Queen anniversary will be held from 1-3 p.m.
Matt Whataguy will provide the evening grandstand entertainment from 8-10 p.m.
Exhibits and activities
Throughout the fair, visitors can see agricultural and livestock exhibits featuring dairy cattle, beef cattle, horses, goats, rabbits and other animals. The fair also features exhibits and competitions in vegetables, fruit, floral, homemaking, needlecraft, arts and crafts, photography, wine and beer, maple products and more.
The Northwestern School District’s Stone House will showcase work from FFA, Wildcat Ventures and other technology programs. The fair also includes demonstrations, children’s activities, bingo, the Stone Age Show and a variety of educational and agricultural programs.
Free shuttle service will run from Northwestern Elementary School to the fairgrounds from 5-10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 2-10 p.m. Saturday. Shuttles run every 20 minutes.
