MEADVILLE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Traveling Workers Memorial will be on display in Crawford County from July 30 through Aug. 3 to honor PennDOT employees who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The memorial will be displayed at the Crawford County Maintenance Office, 18492 Smock Highway in Meadville.
The exhibit features 93 white stands, each marked with a hard hat, safety vest, date and the name of a PennDOT employee who died while serving the residents of Pennsylvania since the department’s founding in 1970.
Ten employees from PennDOT’s northwestern region are included in the memorial, representing Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties.
Those honored are George Peace of Crawford County, Norman Matthews of Warren County, Charles Passauer of Forest County, Paul Anderson of Venango County, Charlie Burin of Erie County, Nyal Orr of Crawford County, Dennis Miller of Mercer County, Earle Chandler of Erie County, and Seth Baughman and Robert “Rob” Greenlee, both of Venango County.
Baughman and Greenlee were killed on June 18, 2025, while working in a PennDOT maintenance work zone in Venango County.
The Traveling Workers Memorial is maintained by employees at PennDOT’s Bradford County facility and travels to locations across Pennsylvania to recognize the sacrifices made by PennDOT employees who have died while performing their duties.
