CORRY — The Community Blood Bank is encouraging area residents to donate blood during a drive at the Corry YMCA as part of an effort to help maintain the local blood supply during the summer months.
The blood drive will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Corry YMCA. All donors who give blood during August will receive a limited-edition Community Blood Bank anniversary tumbler while supplies last.
According to the Community Blood Bank, summer is one of the most challenging times of the year for blood collections as vacations and travel often reduce donations while hospital demand remains steady.
Appointments are encouraged to reduce wait times but are not required. Walk-in donors will be accepted as space allows.
To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a valid photo ID. Donors are also encouraged to eat a substantial meal and drink at least 18 ounces of water before donating.
The Community Blood Bank supplies blood products to hospitals throughout northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York.
