OIL CITY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and several community partners will host a free bicycle rodeo for children during the Oil Heritage Festival later this month.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to noon in the parking lot across from the PennDOT District 1 office and the Crawford Area Transportation Authority facility on Elm Street in downtown Oil City.
Participants will have the opportunity to ride through a bicycle safety course designed to help develop skills such as turning, balancing and using proper hand signals.
Before taking part, children will receive bicycle and helmet inspections conducted by the Venango County Sheriff’s Office. A limited number of free bicycle helmets will also be available.
The event will include a drawing for two bicycles donated by the Crawford Area Transportation Authority, and a free hot dog lunch will be provided.
Children of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. PennDOT said participants should bring a bicycle and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian to sign a permission form.
The event is being held in partnership with the Venango County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford Area Transportation Authority, Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, Highway Safety Network and the Oil City Main Street Program’s Safe, Clean and Green Committee.
