BLOOMFIELD TWP. — Three vehicles were involved in a crash at the intersection of Route 8 and Route 77 in Bloomfield Township on June 21, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:12 p.m. at the intersection of the two state highways.
State police said Richard J. Riley, 86, of Saegertown, was stopped at the stop sign on Route 77 while driving a 2012 General Motors vehicle. Investigators said Riley entered the intersection into the path of a southbound 2016 Hyundai driven by Anthony P. Simmons, 60, of Big Run.
The impact pushed Simmons’ vehicle into the northbound lane of Route 8, where it collided with a 2026 General Motors vehicle driven by Jacob E. Kitts, 32, of Erie.
Police cited Riley for failing to stop at a stop sign.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported. Riley declined medical treatment at the scene, while Simmons and Kitts were not transported.
Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, emergency medical personnel, and Dusty’s Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash occurred at an intersection that underwent a major safety improvement project in 2025. Route 8 and Route 77 reopened in August 2025 after PennDOT completed upgrades that included improved sight distance, a flashing beacon, new pavement, wider shoulders, upgraded drainage, and enhanced signage and pavement markings.
