Senior community centers in Corry and Union City are among eight Erie County facilities receiving grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
State Rep. Jake Banta announced Thursday that the grants have been awarded to support senior community centers and help them continue providing services and programs for older adults in their communities.
The Union City Senior Center received a competitive grant totaling $9,365. The Corry Senior Center was awarded a non-competitive grant of $2,577.
According to the Department of Aging, the funding may be used for projects identified by local senior centers and the older adults they serve. Eligible uses include facility improvements, modernization efforts and planning for future investments.
The largest grant in Erie County was awarded to the John F. Kennedy Center in Erie, which received $106,275 in competitive funding.
Other Erie County senior centers receiving non-competitive grants of $2,577 each include the Mercy Hilltop Center, Erie West Senior Center, North East Senior Center, Northwestern Senior Center and Tri-Boro Senior Center.
State officials said the grants are intended to help senior community centers continue serving as local gathering places where older adults can access programs, services and social opportunities while remaining active in their communities.
