The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has unanimously approved legislation aimed at strengthening protections for children targeted through artificial intelligence-generated sexually explicit images.
House Bill 2474 would require schools and other mandated reporters to immediately contact law enforcement if they become aware of suspected child sexual abuse material involving AI-generated “deepfake” images. The legislation was introduced following at least two reported incidents in which school officials did not immediately notify police after learning of alleged AI-generated explicit images involving students.
Supporters of the bill say the measure is intended to remove uncertainty about reporting requirements and ensure law enforcement agencies are alerted quickly so investigations can begin immediately and harmful material can be stopped from spreading further.
The bill now moves to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration.
