Driver Reportedly Falls Asleep Before Concord Township Crash

Pennsylvania State Police at Corry investigated a single-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Spartansburg Highway in Concord Township, Erie County.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 5:47 p.m. on State Route 77 just north of Summit Road.

Troopers said a 2017 Toyota RAV4 driven by Carlos A. Klein, 20, of Cooperstown, was traveling north when the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. Police said the vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway and struck a guide rail before continuing north and damaging approximately 65 feet of guide rail.

After the initial impact, the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane before coming to rest in the center of the roadway facing north, according to the report.

Police said Klein suffered injuries of unknown severity but was not transported by EMS. The report lists Corry Memorial Hospital as the medical facility involved.

State police said Klein was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
