The Union City Lady Bears were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Meadville High School to take on the Mercer Lady Mustangs in a District 10 2A Consolation to determine State Playoff seeding.
The first quarter would go back-and-forth as both teams traded baskets as Mercer would lead 14-13 after one quarter of play.
Union City would dominate the second quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 13-3 to go into the half leading 26-17.
The Lady Bears would outscore Mercer in a tightly contested third quarter 12-11 to go into the fourth leading by ten 38-28.
The Lady Mustangs would dominate the fourth, getting the Bears lead back down within two points and outscoring the Bears 8-3. The Lady Bears would hold on to win however, taking down the Mustangs 41-36. The win improves the Lady Bears to 14-11 on the season, while the Lady Mustangs fall to 15-10.
The Lady Bears now set their sights on the State Playoffs as they travel to Penn’s Manor on Friday for the first round of the PIAA Class 2A State Playoffs.
In District 10 Class 4A girls action, the Corry Lady Beavers fell to Fairview, 31–19, in the consolation round. The Lady Beavers have also qualified for the PIAA tournament, facing Oakland Catholic in first-round action this Saturday.
