The Union City Lady Bears were back in action on Wednesday night as they traveled to Meadville High School to take on the Wilmington Lady Greyhounds in the District 10 2A Semifinals.
The Lady Bears would take an early lead just over a minute into the game as Ava Greer would make a basket to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. The Greyhounds would come right back however as they would quickly tie the game on a shot by Reese Bruckner.
Ava Greer would put the Bears back on top on a three-point shot to take a 5-2 lead. That shot by Ava Greer would make history as she would break the program record for most points in a single season in Lady Bears history! The lead wouldn’t last long however as Wilmington would come back to tie the game and would take the lead for the first time.
The Lady Greyhounds would begin to pull away from there as they would go on to take down the Bears 63-40 to advance to the District 10 2A Championship game against Kennedy Catholic. The Lady Bears move on to a consolation game against Mercer on Saturday at noon at Meadville High School to determine State Playoff seeding.
In District 10 Class 4A girls action, the Corry Lady Beavers came up just short in the semifinals, falling to the Harborcreek Huskies 37-33. The Lady Beavers will move on to the consolation round and face the Fairview Tigers at Hagerty Center at 3 PM with third-place positioning still on the line.
On the boys side, the Corry Beavers saw their postseason run conclude in the District 10 Class 3A championship game Tuesday night. Corry fell to the Eisenhower Knights 70-49, as Eisenhower secured the district title. Coach Tyler Bailey is stepping down after 11 seasons leading the Beavers program. He said the decision comes as he plans to spend more time with his family.
