The Erie Otters snapped their skid against U.S.-based opponents Saturday night, outlasting the Flint Firebirds 6-4 at home in a back-and-forth battle.
Flint struck first on Kevin He’s 31st goal, but Erie answered quickly. Kayden Edwards tied the game before Michael Dec gave the Otters a 2-1 lead after one.
The Firebirds surged ahead in the second, with Jacob Battaglia tying the game and He scoring again for a 3-2 edge. Dec responded with a power-play goal, and Evan Headrick put Erie back in front 4-3 heading into the third.
After Ihnat Pazii evened the game early in the final frame, Edwards delivered the game-winner — his second goal of the night — to make it 5-4. Headrick added insurance, and goaltender Charlie Burns made 36 saves in his first start since Jan. 8 to secure the win.
Erie outshot Flint 44-40 in the victory, earning its first win of the season against an American foe and back-to-back home victories.
