The Union City Area High School wrestling team dropped a 42–30 decision to Cranberry Area Tuesday night in a dual meet that featured a series of fast-paced matches and multiple falls.
Cranberry Area secured the team victory by winning eight of the 13 contested bouts, with 10 matches ending by fall. Union City earned points in five weight classes, including two wins by forfeit and three falls.
Union City picked up an early highlight at 114 pounds, where David Dominguez-Ashton pinned Jacob Heim in just 41 seconds. The Bears also received forfeits at 121 and 127 pounds, with Van Ward and Karmyn Blystone collecting automatic victories to keep the team score close early in the match.
Additional wins for Union City came at 152 and 160 pounds. Braylon Blakeslee earned a fall over Sabastien Bemis at 2:27 in the 152-pound bout, followed by Kane Gregor’s pin of Jamarcus Cooke at 2:34 in the 160-pound match.
Cranberry Area responded with several quick pins throughout the middle and upper weights. Wins by fall from Aiden Thompson at 133, Dalton Wenner at 139, Aaden Hibbard at 145, Matthew Antrilli at 172, Clark Findlay at 189, and Jack Nuhfer at 215 helped the Berries build and maintain their lead. The 107-pound match also went Cranberry’s way, with Brent Hurrelbrink pinning Brooks Mitcham at 2:13.
The heavyweight bout at 285 pounds ended in a double forfeit, closing out the dual.
