The Corry Higher Education Council (CHEC) plans to announce a new full scholarship opportunity for City of Corry emergency services personnel during the Corry City Council meeting on Monday, January 12, at 6:00 p.m.
The scholarship will cover full tuition for one City of Corry emergency services employee who is accepted into Mercyhurst University’s Applied Crisis and Emergency Management program. The academic program focuses on emergency preparedness, disaster response, public safety leadership, and crisis management.
According to CHEC, the initiative is intended to support workforce development while strengthening local emergency response capabilities.
“Emergency personnel are on the front lines every day, protecting our residents and responding to critical situations,” said Dr. Matthew Platz, Executive Director of the Corry Higher Education Council. “By offering a full scholarship to Mercyhurst University’s Applied Crisis and Emergency Management program, we are investing not only in the professional growth of our emergency responders, but also in the long-term safety and resilience of the City of Corry.”
Mercyhurst University Provost Dr. Rich McCarty said the scholarship aligns with the university’s focus on applied learning that serves communities. “This scholarship will provide an excellent opportunity for workforce training that directly serves the local community,” McCarty said.
Additional information on eligibility requirements, application procedures, and timelines is expected to be shared during the council meeting and in follow-up communications from CHEC.
The Corry Higher Education Council works to expand access to higher education, training, and workforce development opportunities for residents and employees in the Corry area.
