A recently approved federal spending bill includes more than $2.5 million for fire service projects across Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District, with funding designated for departments in Greenfield Township, Meadville, and Zelienople.
The allocations were part of the FY2026 Community Project Funding program, which allows municipalities and emergency service agencies to request federal support for specific infrastructure needs.
Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company in North East will receive $975,000 to construct a new fire station. The current station, built in the 1940s, no longer meets modern safety and operational needs and sits along a busy 50-mph roadway. The new facility is expected to improve response operations and provide safer access for emergency vehicles.
West Mead #1 Volunteer Fire Company in Meadville has been awarded $400,077 to replace a 30-year-old pumper/tanker. The updated unit will increase water capacity from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons and improve foam-injection capability for fire suppression. According to the department, call volume has increased in recent years, and the upgrade will improve service to areas without municipal water access.
Harmony Fire District in Zelienople will receive $1.2 million to replace a 23-year-old apparatus. The district covers multiple municipalities, including two of the fastest-growing communities in the state, and reported that the aging equipment is due for replacement.
All funding is pending the standard federal approval and distribution process.
