The Lake Canadohta History Center is hosting a heartfelt community event this Saturday, July 19, at 11:00 a.m., honoring the service and sacrifice of our local veterans. The “Veterans Salute,” part of the Center’s Distinguished Speaker Series, is free and open to the public, with families especially encouraged to attend.

The program will feature presentations from two distinguished authors with deep local ties. Mary Jane Phillips Koenig, a Union City native, will share stories from her work documenting the lives of area World War I veterans and the industries that supported the war effort. Her insights shed light on how global conflict shaped everyday life in northwest Pennsylvania.

Also speaking is Richard James Anton, who will present the moving story of his uncle, Sgt. James Anton, an Aerial Engineer who lost his life in a B-26 training accident during World War II. Drawing from personal letters and diaries, Mr. Anton’s talk offers a powerful, personal view of wartime experiences and the legacy of service.

The event will conclude with a Quilts of Valor ceremony, led by the Happy Scrappers Quilting Group under the direction of Annette Burgess. Patriotic quilts will be presented to local veterans Pat Coates, Danny Miller, James Miller, and Tim Roberts in recognition of their service.

Organizers hope to make the Veterans Salute an annual tradition at the History Center. Attendees can also support the center by purchasing memberships and raffle tickets during the event.

The history center is located at 36166 Lake Road at Canadohta Lake
