During Tuesday’s meeting Union City Borough Council held an executive session to discuss the settlement of a legal dispute. The session took about 10 minutes. Upon return council voted to approve a settlement with the Philadelphia Insurance Company on the Raccoon Refuse Performance Bond in the amount of $72,282.81. The motion authorizes the execution of the final release pending solicitor approval. Racoon Refuse was the garbage service provider for several area municipalities, including Union City, prior to August 15, 2022 when the provider issued an email to the borough office stating it was ceasing operations effective immediately. The business closure forced thousands of customers and several municipalities to scramble to find a replacement service. Union City borough subsequently filed the claim against the performance bond provided by Raccoon Refuse to help recover money that was paid for services that were not provided due to the closure of the company.
