SAEGERTOWN — A new bridge carrying Route 6 over French Creek in Woodcock and Hayfield townships is expected to open November 25, with the vehicle detour scheduled to be lifted that day.

The bridge is located about two miles southwest of Saegertown, between Morris Road and Black Road.

PennDOT says the contractor recently poured the concrete bridge deck and is continuing work on the remaining portions of the project. Crews still need to install bridge barriers and guide rails, reconstruct the roadway approaches, pave the project area and apply pavement markings.

The bridge has been closed since April 6. Motorists are detoured using Interstate 79 and Route 198. A separate bicycle detour follows Route 198, Park Avenue Extension and East Cole Road.

The overall project is expected to be completed in December. Palo Construction of Clarion is the contractor, and the project is funded entirely with state money at a cost of nearly $6.94 million.

The new structure replaces an older metal truss bridge. Another truss bridge on this section of Route 6, just south of Saegertown, was replaced in 2025.
