ERIE — Pennsylvania state parole agent Kevin J. Seelinger has been acquitted of all charges in the fatal shooting of parolee Marchello D. Woodard in Erie in July 2025, according to Go Erie.

An Erie County jury reached the verdict Wednesday after deliberating for approximately eight hours and 15 minutes over two days. Woodard, 43, was shot and killed on July 2, 2025, during a compliance check in the 400 block of East 27th Street. Seelinger testified that he fired in self-defense, saying he feared being seriously injured as he held onto Woodard’s car. Prosecutors argued that Seelinger shot Woodard before the car began moving away.

Seelinger had faced charges including first- and third-degree murder, as well as voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. The verdict followed a trial that began October 5 in Erie County Court of Common Pleas.
